This city’s Covid-19 Task Force has urged parents to have their children vaccinated before the Department of Education (DepEd) approves the total resumption of face-to-face (F2F) learning.

“Eventually, we will conduct F2F learning. It is our hope that by the time this is allowed, the target population is already fully vaccinated,” Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the task force spokesperson, said Friday.

The task force launched the school-based inoculation on May 27, which has so far vaccinated 18,835 children for the first dose, and another 15,465 for second dose.

The figures are 7.78 percent and 6.38 percent of the 242,209 pediatric population, respectively.

Schlosser said vaccination centers in schools also cater to teaching and non-teaching personnel for booster shots.

“Family members of students who will also be around the school during the vaccination rollout activity will be encouraged to get vaccinated either for primary, missed, or booster doses,” she added.

Meanwhile, Schlosser called on school personnel to continue helping observe the pediatric age group five to 11 and 12 to 17 for Covid-19 symptoms.

Schlosser noted that those age groups were only recently allowed to take the vaccines.

“The young population group is not as responsible as adults in diligently wearing face masks as they are not privy to the importance of protective masks. Without adult supervision, these kids would most likely take off the masks and touch anything without observing proper hygiene,” she said. (PNA)
