Presidential candidate, Vice President Leni Robredo, called on her supporters to practice self-restraint and not to argue with supporters of other candidates, as a birthday present for her.
“Ang pakiusap ko lang po, huwag po tayong makipag-away. Ayan ha, nag ye-‘yes’ kayo tapos mamaya makikita ko na naman sa Facebook nakikipag-away na naman kayo. Birthday ko bukas kaya wala akong hinihinging ibang birthday gift pero yun yun (My appeal is let us not fight. You are saying ‘yes’ but later on I will see on Facebook that you are arguing. It is my birthday tomorrow and I do not have any other wish but that),” Robredo said during her visit to the San Pablo Apostol Parish Church in Tondo, Manila on Friday.
She noted that there are “a lot of noises everywhere,” with Election Day just around the corner.
With only 14 days left for campaigning, she said they should just focus on what needs to be done.
The election campaign runs until May 7 or two days before Election Day on May 9.
Robredo said she has been subjected to bashing and trolling but has been able to survive her six years as the country’s vice president by just focusing on her job.
She noted that instead of arguing with those who back other presidential candidates, her supporters should focus on the fight for the country.
“Dapat alam natin, ang pinaglalaban natin dito hindi ako. Ang pinaglalaban nyo dito yung ating bayan (We should know that this fight is not for me but the country),” she said.
On Friday, about 1,043 members of the clergy from various parts of the country gave their support and endorsement to Robredo.
On Saturday, Robredo celebrates her 57th birthday through a grand rally initiated and organized by her supporters.
The event will be held along the Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City where hundreds of thousands of her supporters are expected to attend. (PNA)
