The city government here is set to receive an additional 30,000 doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines for children aged 5 to 11 this week.

Dr. Chris Sorongon, medical and data analysis deputy of the Emergency Operations Center Task Force (EOC-TF), said on Tuesday the arrival of more jabs will allow them to allocate more supply to various vaccination centers, particularly those situated in shopping malls.

“We will increase allocation per mall. We will open more barangay vaccination centers for children,” he added.

In February, the city government received 10,000 doses of Pfizer shots for the roll-out of Covid-19 vaccination campaign for the 5 to 11 age group.

Currently, inoculation is being conducted at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, SM City Bacolod, Robinsons Place Bacolod, CityMall Mandalagan, and Goldenfield.

A maximum of 100 children are being accommodated in each of the mall venues.

Previously, the vaccination campaign was also brought to students of St. John’s Institute, STI-Western Negros University, and Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

As of March 14, Bacolod has administered the first dose on some 5,780 minors and fully vaccinated 808 children in the 5 to 11 age group, data of the Department of Health-Western Visayas showed.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is recommended for active immunization for the prevention of Covid-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 in individuals 5 years and older, based on the emergency use authorization issued by the Food and Drug Administration. (PNA)
