Single life in the Christmas life is not something to be sad about, but think of it as having more self-time, self-care, and self-reflection, which is pretty enjoyable if you spend your time wisely.
While couples flood the famous Christmas cities in the Philippines, like Baguio and Tagaytay, there are other places where you can capture winter wonderland memories.
Visit these nearby places or, with enough budget, travel to new sights and make your “samahan ng malalamig na pasko” into “single na, masaya pa.”
1. Policarpio Street, Mandaluyong City
If you enjoy watching quiet lights, the Christmas lights of the long Policarpio Street in Mandaluyong City will give you three different attractions for your Christmas selfie.
Families in Policarpio Street have had a tradition of lighting up and decorating their houses. While it may not be a hot tourist spot in the city, the owners allow visitors from neighboring streets and barangays in Mandaluyong to take photos.
Three particular residents follow a specific theme for their houses: the Lim family with a “garden Belen,” the Suva family with “everything Santa,” and the Dalisay family with a house of lights, especially parols.
2. Lucky Chinatown, Binondo
You can treat yourself to some delicious Filipino-Chinese cuisine or exotic street foods along Lucky Chinatown, Binondo while adventuring around under the Chinese lanterns mixed with parols and LED lights.
In the nearby Atrium Mall, you can take pictures with the beautiful Christmas lights and even get a chance to meet Lucky Chinatown’s mascot, “Baby Panda.”
Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner, group, or family with you; Binondo’s busy street will give you a cultural and traditional experience of a Filipino-Chinese Christmas.
3. Araneta City, Cubao
Let your 70’s inner child light up with Araneta City in Cubao, as it makes a comeback this holiday, dubbed “Manila Disneyland” because of its Christmas fiesta carnival theme.
In the previous carnival, you could have an enchanting night with their carousel, boat pool, road train, inflatables, trampoline, and more. There were also kiosks all over where you could find a variety of carnival food or snacks.
While Araneta City has confirmed the return of the attraction, it will be temporarily located in the old shops across Smart Araneta Coliseum.
4. San Fernando City, Pampanga
Join the ‘Ligligan Parul’ or giant lantern festival in San Fernando City, Pampanga, or even buy your parol that you can hang back at home or give to your family as additional decor.
The whole city, from the main road to the city hall and houses, is covered with lights and parols. If you are used to the nightlife, then the Orchid Gardens resort can offer you Disney Christmas magic.
Expect a big crowd in this famous tourist place that is also dubbed the Christmas capital of the Philippines, but it is sure a worthy destination.
5. Tangub City, Misamis Occidental
If you want a holiday tour ‘around the world’, then there is no need to spend multiple tickets; just visit Tangub City in Misamis Occidental, where large landmark signs from around the world are there to greet you.
Some of the landmarks include Los Angeles, Portugal, and London, with arches decorated with Christmas lights designed by the residents, showcasing their efforts in bringing holiday joy to every tourist.
A fun fact is that this city rivals San Fernando, as it was once given a distinction in 2007 as the Christmas Symbol Capital of the Philippines.
6. Yoyo Land Village, Bacolod City
Meet Santa and the reindeer in Yoyoland village, and take a picturesque photo of the beautiful Christmas house with a mini Ferris wheel and other complementary attractions.
If you prefer a more serene sight, you can capture the nativity scene of the holy family with the angels, shepherds, and more. If you happen to stay in the Stone Hill Suites, the penthouse will have a perfect view.
The Sy family has long promised that when visiting Yoyoland village, it can be a place of home while remembering the importance of Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ.
Being alone really isn’t so bad; you have time to enjoy the spirit of Christmas by making memories, but you never know; maybe you’ll bump into someone accidentally with your ‘forever’ and you can call it your own Christmas miracle.
