Vice President Leni Robredo shared her experiences and observations while vacationing in New York with her daughters on Sunday, May 29.

In the lengthy post accompanied by a series of photos, Robredo is hopeful that these “dreams” can also be achieved in the Philippines.

Leni and her daughters are now back in the country after a short trip to New York City to attend the college graduation of her youngest daughter, Jillian, from New York University.

“We’re back. Ready to work again. Energized by the longest vacation I’ve had in 10 years,” Robredo said.

She shared that it was the first trip they took as a family where they had no agenda at all, except for Jillian’s graduation and Tricia’s (her second daughter) work meetings in Boston.

“We just walked and walked everyday, averaging about 15,000-20,000 ++ steps everyday. At kumain lang ng kumain,”

Robredo said, explaining they had to decline invitations for meetings and meet-ups as they only had two weeks to spend in the city.

“I promised the girls that, for this trip, all my time will be devoted to them. So whatever lunches or dinners we’ve had with friends were all, somehow, connected to them,” she added.

Although VP Leni always says to her daughters that she still prefers living in the province, she mentioned five things she liked in New York City that she wished the Philippines could achieve someday.

This includes their easy public transportation system; New York’s status as a “walking city” or pedestrian-friendly metropolis; the city’s numerous bike lanes and bike racks; the presence of parks everywhere; and the restoration of historic structures.

Robredo closed with a statement, “Libreng mangarap at libre din pag trabahuhan mga pangarap.”

Before going to New York, the vice president announced the continuation of her Angat Buhay program as a non-governmental organization that will start on July 1, a day after she finishes her term at the Office of the Vice President.
